KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd have launched the Chery Premier Supply Chain Synergy Programme, bringing together 35 global suppliers to accelerate the development of Malaysia’s automotive sector.
The strategic initiative — supported by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) — connects 12 key Chery Technology suppliers from China with 23 Malaysian firms.
MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said the programme plays a critical role in advancing the goals of the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020.
“We aim to unlock mutually beneficial opportunities that drive growth and innovation, aligning perfectly with NAP 2020’s objectives of promoting local vendor development, supporting next-generation vehicles (NxGV), and incorporating Industry 4.0 practices.
“By fostering these vital links, we envision a future rich with technology transfer, streamlined supply chains and enhanced industrial capabilities, ultimately benefiting both Malaysia and Chery,” he said in a statement.
MIDA said the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park, located in the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley, will become Chery’s manufacturing hub in the region, marking a key milestone in Malaysia’s automotive advancement.
As part of the initiative, four strategic memoranda of understanding (MoUs) have been signed.
Wuhu Atech Automotive Electronics Co Ltd and Cheling Smart Mobility Technology (Wuhu) Co Ltd each signed MoUs with Multi-Code Electronics Industries (M) Bhd.
Separately, Zhejiang Wanliyang Co Ltd and Wuhu Qida Power Battery System Co Ltd formalised their respective partnerships with Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
“These partnerships focus on automotive components, technology transfer and joint investments, strengthening Malaysia's position in the global automotive supply chain.
“The supply chain initiative addresses the growing demand for electrification and smart mobility solutions, positioning Malaysia at the forefront of automotive innovation,” added MIDA.
