Fadillah Joins Ministerial Plenary Session On The Future Of Energy Security Summit

LONDON, April 25 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof participated in a ministerial plenary on the second day of the Future of Energy Security Summit at Lancaster House here on Friday.

Accompanying Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, were Senior Private Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Ahmad Wafi Harussani, Sarawak Energy Group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, and Sarawak Energy corporate communication general manager Elain Tan.

The three-hour ministerial plenary, which began at 9.45am local time, was moderated by International Energy Agency (IEA) executive director Dr Fatih Birol.

Building on the preceding day, the final plenary provided a crucial opportunity for governments to discuss priorities and actions they might take to shape a global agenda that moves beyond this gathering, embedding a forward-looking and resilient approach to energy security.

Specifically, the session aimed to build consensus in areas such as shaping and embedding a holistic approach to energy security and identifying existing and emerging energy security priorities.

It also ensured governments have the tools they need to prevent and respond to the spectrum of challenges confronting them as the energy security context evolves, as well as to coordinate and collaborate effectively to ensure national and global energy security, both now and into the long term.

The two-day summit, which kicked off yesterday and was organised by the IEA and the United Kingdom government, convened global decision-makers to advance action to map and mould the future of energy security.

Fadillah, who arrived on Wednesday for a three-day working visit, is scheduled to meet with the Malaysian diaspora in the UK at the Malaysian High Commission in London later today.

Tomorrow, he is scheduled to visit the Blyth Offshore Windfarm in Newcastle, a small coastal wind farm, to explore the potential of new energy which can be harnessed by Malaysia.

Blyth is the first offshore wind farm to use float and submerge technology. This means the wind turbines are supported with gravity-based foundations, which are transported by floating.
