LONDON, APRIL 24 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the two-day Summit on the Future of Energy Security in London that kicks off Thursday, April 24.
The energy summit, taking place in Lancaster House, London, is organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Kingdom (UK) government, and it is scheduled to start at 9 am local time (4 pm Malaysian time).
The event will see global decision-makers convene to advance actions to map and mould the future of energy security.
Fadillah, who arrived here on Wednesday after his two-day official working visit to Istanbul, Turkiye, will take part in the summit’s Session 1, entitled “Mapping the Energy Security Landscape-Defining a Holistic Approach”, as well as the roundtable session, “Electricity Security-Ensuring Security in the Age of Electricity.”
Joining Fadillah at the summit are Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) deputy secretary-general (energy) Mareena Mahpudz and Sarawak Energy Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.
On the sidelines of the summit, Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Transformation minister, will pay courtesy calls to IEA executive director Dr Fatih Birol and UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband.
According to PETRA, the summit’s main focus will be on the security of energy sources and supply, including mapping the energy security landscape and identifying risks, opportunities and actions to ensure the security of energy sources and supply.
PETRA said that through the summit, Malaysia’s existing policies and direction, especially regarding the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), along with its efforts and commitment to implementing energy generation using clean fuel sources and green technology in the future, will be highlighted.
In addition, the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and the UK will be strengthened through exploring potential collaboration and cooperation, particularly in policy formulation, regulation and legislation, as well as understanding the challenges and best solutions to ensure the security and reliability of energy supply.
Earlier, Fadillah and Muslim residents in London performed the Subuh prayer at the Mayfair Islamic Centre.
