Malaysia To Monitor US Tariffs, Ensure Semiconductor Industry Remains Competitive -- Anwar

10/04/2025 06:50 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will continue monitoring the latest developments regarding tariffs imposed by the United States, even though the semiconductor industry is not directly affected by the situation, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The prime minister said the government is taking proactive steps to ensure the country’s semiconductor industry remains competitive.

“The National Investment Council (MPN) meeting today discussed the financing of the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), which is crucial for addressing the funding gap for local companies based on the semiconductor value chain and the horizontal integration of high-tech industry projects that align with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and NSS,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar chaired the MPN for the second time in 2025 today and evaluated updated reports regarding vital policies related to national investments.

He emphasised that the country’s economic reform agenda must continue, including industrial reforms involving the development of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP), which was also discussed.
