BAGAN SERAI, April 10 (Bernama) -- Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd (Agrobank) has targeted 18 of its branches to utilise solar power by the end of this year.

Its president and chief executive officer, Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, said the bank also targeted an additional 50 branches nationwide to adopt green technology by 2025.

“We are ready to respond to the government’s call to preserve the environment through green technology, with 138 more branches identified to implement solar energy within the next five years.

“This initiative aligns with Agrobank’s commitment to reduce the impact of climate change and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” he said at a press conference here today.

He made these remarks after attending the inauguration of Agrobank’s first Green Branch in Bagan Serai, officiated by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah added that the bank’s Bagan Serai branch has been fitted with 40 solar panels at a cost of RM45,000, capable of generating 20 kWp of energy with an average of 2,400 kWh of electricity each month.

“In addition to being equipped with a solar system, this branch also features a 350-litre rainwater collection system for general use and landscaping, an energy-efficient cooling system, and LED lighting designed to reduce energy consumption.

“Through this initiative, we can reduce monthly electricity and water bills by 45 per cent, with an estimated monthly savings of RM1,530.90 on electricity bills,” he said.

He further noted that using green technology is expected to mitigate the impact of climate change and achieve a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 1.91 tonnes per month.

Earlier, Agrobank contributed RM80,988 in zakat to ten mosques and suraus in the Bagan Serai area and provided takaful protection benefits totalling RM665,000 to three beneficiaries.
