KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Museum and Art Gallery (MAG) is organising two new exhibitions in conjunction with the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting.
BNM governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said the two exhibitions resonate deeply with the spirit of the ASEAN community.
“While different and distinct, I believe that together, the two exhibitions represent a compelling dialogue between art, literature and currency, both revealing the importance of our shared ASEAN experience,” he said in his speech after unveiling the dual exhibition at Sasana Kijang today.
The first exhibition, “Numismatic Marvels: Minted History, Printed Heritage”, tells the story of the economic evolution and sovereignty of ASEAN nations through the lens of currency, he said.
“The exhibition tells how back then, issuing our own currencies marked our independence and the ability to stand tall as self-governing, free and independent nations.
“Today, our currencies reflect not just our respective national histories and cultural heritages, but also our aspirations for the future,” he said.
Abdul Rasheed said that while the role of currency evolves, digital payments are now being embraced, and banknotes and coins will always have a special place in everyone's hearts, memories and histories.
Meanwhile, the second exhibition, “Palette and Pen”, explores the dynamic interplay between art and literature, featuring over 150 artworks from Malaysia and ASEAN.
It is divided into three sections, “He, the Colour and the Word”, “Inspired by Words”, and “Letters from ASEAN”.
Visitors will experience poetic texts merged with visual forms, music, film and illustrations that adapt literary works.
The two exhibitions highlight BNM MAG’s dedication to fostering cultural dialogue and understanding within ASEAN, offering visitors a rich experience that showcases the region’s cultural diversity.
Both exhibitions will be open to the public from April 10 to Oct 12, 2025.
Art and history lovers, families and cultural explorers are welcome to visit.
There will also be some rare artworks from ASEAN countries on display.
