Panasonic Estimates 3 Pct Revenue Loss From Gas Supply Disruption Due To Putra Heights Fire

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd (PMMA) said that the gas supply disruption resulting from the Putra Heights fire is expected to impact the production of its fan and electric iron products, resulting in an estimated loss of revenue of approximately three per cent.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing, PMMA said the revenue loss is based on total revenue for the last financial year.

It added that the company had been notified by Gas Malaysia Energy and Services Sdn Bhd that the supply interruption, which impacts PMMA’s manufacturing plants in Shah Alam, is expected to continue until April 20, 2025.

“However, the operations of other products such as vacuum cleaners, home showers, and others are not affected,” it said.

PMMA managing director Takashi Sugihara said the company has activated its business continuity plan and implemented contingency measures to sustain critical operations for these products to ensure that the supply chain disruptions are minimal.

“We are proactively managing potential disruptions to our supply chain and customer deliveries.

“We have implemented robust measures to minimise operational impact and are exploring alternative sources of gas supply to ensure we continue fulfilling our commitments and aim to recover the loss of revenue once operations are normalised,” he said.

Having closed the financial year on March 31, 2025, PMMA said it only expected minimal impact from the gas supply disruption on the group’s overall operations or financial performance in the new financial year.
