MELAKA, May 13 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government aims to add 10 more National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) this year, said State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan.
He said the application would be made through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to ensure this effort would facilitate and benefit the local residents.
"So far, 39 NADI have been established in 28 state legislative assemblies in Melaka, with each assembly having between one and two such centres.
"For example, just last year, we received as many as nine NADI under the sponsorship of Maxis," he told reporters after the inauguration ceremony of the Kampung Padang NADI in Pokok Mangga here today.
The ceremony was officiated by Kesidang state assemblyman Allex Seah Shoo Chin, who is also Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman, and was attended by the Melaka MCMC director Syed Isa Alsagoff.
Elaborating further, Fairul Nizam said NADI is not only beneficial as an information dissemination platform but also as a medium for implementing many community programmes for various age groups.
He said various facilities including the internet and laptops have been provided for the use of residents, especially school students who need these facilities for their learning.
“We also plan to implement lifelong learning programmes such as Quran recitation classes because we need to fully utilise all the facilities provided by the government at NADI... otherwise, it will be a waste," he said.
Meanwhile, Seah said that more entrepreneurship training programmes will be organised at NADI as a platform to empower entrepreneurs and simultaneously boost their economy, with the cooperation of various related agencies.
In addition, he said, NADI is also seen as suitable to serve as a medium for e-commerce or online entrepreneurs to conduct promotional sessions using the facilities available at the centre.
"We want entrepreneurs in Melaka to be able to adapt to technological conveniences to shift to online business like TikTok instead of physical stores to facilitate customer access and simultaneously increase sales," he also said.
Meanwhile, he added that the Kampung Padang NADI, Pokok Mangga is the first to be established in the Kesidang constituency and it will certainly become a focal point for those in need of the facilities provided.
